Evelyn Mary (Hegeman) Kerkman, 100, of New Munster, passed to eternal life on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Pine Brook Pointe.

Evelyn was born on February 10, 1917 to Lawrence and Catherine Hegeman in Burlington. Evelyn attended St. Mary Catholic Grade School and was the oldest of five daughters.

On April 12, 1947 she was united in marriage to Francis H. Kerkman at St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. They made their home in New Munster where they raised their family. Francis preceded her in death on March 19, 2006.

Besides working on the family farm during her youth, Evelyn worked at the Burlington Mills during WWII, held the position of Treasurer for Wheatland Township in Kenosha County, and assisted with the hot lunch program at St. Alphonsus Catholic Grade School.
