PIONEER JESUP RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Mrs. Mary Bruck, 85, pioneer resident of Buchanan county died January 16, at her home in Los Angeles, California, where she had been living the past eight years.
Mary Trebon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Trebon, was born in Alsace-Lorraine April 1, 1850, and came with her parents to Lake Mills, Wisconsin, when three years of age. The family later traveled by covered wagon to a farm six miles south of Fairbank, Iowa.
In 1869, she married Nicholas Bruck at Independence, Iowa. They resided at Jesup where Mr. Bruck was a pioneer wagon maker. He also conducted an elevator business and built the stone elevator which is still standing in the east end of town. He also built the brick house which is located near the creamery. He died October 17, 1896 and following his death, Mrs. Buck moved to Waterloo where she resided 31 years.
She is survived by one son, John Bruck, at Ruthven, Iowa, and four daughters, Mrs. George Smale, Waterloo, and Mrs. W. C. Brennan, Mrs. Ward E. Murray, and Mrs. T. G. Torpey, Los Angeles.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo, and the funeral was held at St. Therese's
Catholic church Los Angeles at 9 a. m. Saturday. The remains were brought to Jesup for burial in St.
Athanasius cemetery by the side of her husband. Commitment rites were held here Wednesday morning with Rev. Fr. Lentz, of Waterloo, officiating. Her daughter, Mrs. Murray accompanied the body here from Los Angeles.
