Harry N. Lyon, 68, well known Monticello resident and buyer for the Dubuque Packing company, died in his home Sunday, Oct. 4, after an illness of a few months. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Devaney Funeral home to the Sacred Heart church at 9:30 a.m. Interment was made at the Oakwood cemetery. Full military rites were given by the Monticello VFW Post No. 1683.
Born Nov. 18, 1890, at Fairbank, Iowa, the deceased was the son of Jessie and Mary Neil Lyon. He received his education in that vicinity and in 1919 was married to Olive A. Trebon. They lives in Dubuque until they moved to Monticello in 1940; she preceded him in death in November 1952. He was later remarried in 1956.
Harry N. Lyon was a veteran of World War I, past Commander of the Monticello VFW Post; vice president of the Lyon Machinery company and formerly a city councilman of Monticello. He was employed by the Dubuque Packing company as livestock buyer for many years.
The deceased was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents and a sister, Delia. Survivors include his three children, Donald G. Lyon, John J. Lyon, both Monticello and Mrs. Mary Ann Broulik, Cedar Rapids, and a brother Harold Lyon, Tipton, Iowa. Three grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers included Bill Leighty Elden Brashaw, Mike Hogan, Alfred Egger, Floyd Fox, and Herman Lange.
