Geraldine Macfarlane Wiemer

Geraldine Macfarlane Wiemer passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. She was born October 17, 1919 in Blackwell, OK, the first of five children and only daughter of Jack and Nora Parker Macfarlane. The family always said she was born on a sunny day, which explained her happy attitude and positive outlook on life. Geri grew up among the apple orchards of Pleasant Grove, Utah with her four incredible brothers: Jim, Max, Jay, and Bob. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1937 and from BYU in 1941 where she met a tall, lanky basketball player from southern California by the name of Frederick W. Wiemer. World War II interrupted this romance with Fred serving in the Army Air Corps while Geri taught school and then worked at the Ordinance Depot. They were finally married on June 10, 1945 near Oakland, CA. During their life together, Fred and Geri lived in many places including California, Texas, Mexico City, Ohio, Maryland, Sweden, Arizona, and Utah.

Geri had many interests including love for learning, reading, eating apples, ice cream, and chocolate. She especially loved all her grandchildren, warm cinnamon buns, and flowers from her garden. She was an avid BYU sports fan. Geraldine was an active member of the LDS Church and an example to us all.

She was the optimistic center of our universe and we will always honor her memory.

Fred passed away on October 19, 1999. Geri is survived by her four children: John, Bountiful, UT; Diane (Walter) Larsen, La Canada, CA; Randy (Sharon), Gilbert, AZ; and Mike (Karen), Layton, UT; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her beloved brothers and by three beautiful sisters-in-law.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Apple Village Assisted Living in Layton, Utah for their kindness and care of Geri for 3 1/2 years and to Washington Terrance Health Services, and Applegate Hospice for tender care at the end of her journey. Special thanks goes to friends from the Chapel Hills Ward including Cheryl Cloward and Tristan Halls, your visits meant so much to Mom!

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinfamilymortuary.com.
