Clara Kathryn Ott Chase, daughter of Rudolph and Alvina Ott, was born Feb. 11, 1903, near Fairbank, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church there.
On Sept. 28, 1921, she married Frank L. Chase. They lived on a farm southwest of Oelwein for 24 years and then moved to the present location about 10 miles northeast of Oelwein in 1946.
Mrs. Chase died unexpectedly at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1954, at Mercy hospital after an illness of two weeks.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Norma) Miller and Mrs. Victor (LaVonne) Eschen, both of Waterloo; three sons: Loraine, Stanley, and Kenneth, Waterloo, and Richard, Dunkerton; 14 grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Harold Hussey, Waterloo, and Mrs. Louis Sierenpke, Oelwein; three brothers: Albert, Oran; Fred, Arlington; and August, Fairbank.
Funeral services were conducted at Zion Lutheran church on Oct. 22, by the Rev. H. E. Dietel, with Mrs. W. Kutschat, organist, and Mrs. Robert Rechkemmer, soloist. Burial was in Memorial Gardens.
