Richard M. Chase, 80, of rural Jesup, died at home Wednesday, April 13, of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Oelwein, son of Frank and Clara Ott Chase. On April 14, 1945, he married Bette Jean Finch in Oelwein. She died June 21, 1999.
Mr. Chase served in the US. Navy during World War II. He farmed south of Jesup for many years and also worked at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, for 17 years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Penny Bakel of Waterloo and Linda (Steve) Brindle of Junction City, Calif.; two sons, Richard M. (Vicki) of Cedar Rapids and Mark W. (Connie) of Independence: eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Loraine (Nelma) of Oelwein; and two sisters, Norma Miller of Waterloo and Lavonne (Mearl) Procter of Chino Valley, Ariz.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Kenneth.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Garden, Hazleton. Military rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American legion Post 342. Friends may call from 4 to 8 Tuesday at the funeral home.
