Walter J. "Wally" Kerkman
SLADES CORNERS

 

Age 81, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living in Kenosha. Wally was born March 19, 1934 to Gilbert and Armella (Busch) Kerkman in Slades Corners. His early life was spent in the Slades Corners area. On June 16, 1956 he was united in marriage to Catherine "Kay" McCarthy at St. Mary's in Racine. Following their marriage they resided in Slades Corners. He worked on the family dairy farm and was formerly employed, for over 10 years, at Salem Central High School as a janitor. Wally was a lifetime member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department and a 4-H Dairy Leader. Wally enjoyed the outdoors; fishing and hunting. More than anything he loved spending time with his family. Wally is survived by his loving wife, Kay, children: Daniel (Linda) Kerkman of Madison, Diane Kerkman of Waukesha, Larry (Fiancé Meg Jeanson) Kerkman of San Diego, CA, Randy (Shelli) Kerkman of Bristol and Lisa (Bob) Hinrichs of Osseo, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings; Ella Mae Dorn, Shirley (Glen) Borst, Norman (Mary) Kerkman and a sister-in-law Theresa Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Jerry and Walter, a sister Elaine. In Lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials be made to Hospice Advantage, Corporate Drive #500, Racine, WI 53406. A special thank you to the staff at Brookdale Senior Living, Kenosha and the staff of Hospice Advantage for their care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 12:00- Noon at St. Alphonsus with Rev. Terry Langley officiating. Relatives and friend may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 10:00AM until 11:45AM, at the church. Burial will follow service in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
