Age 66. Passed away Oct. 30, 1962 in St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Bernhardt was born in Germany on Jan. 4, 1896. He had been a resident of Racine for 50 years. Before retiring in February 1961, he had been employed at the Modine Manufacturing Co. for 42 years. He was a member of the Modine 30 Year Club. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; one brother Robert Bernhardt, both of Racine; one brother and two sisters in California; also nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m.. in the Maresh Funeral Home, Dr. Kenneth Hurst officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call at the MARESH FUNERAL HOME, Main at 8th St., Thursday after 3 p.m. and until time of services on Friday.

Research notes for Oscar

The 1940 census record shows marriage to Dorothy with a Donaldson step-son. This is a new Dorothy and not Dorothy Arndt. While a coincidence, I do believe this is the correct Oscar Bernhardt as he's living at the same address given on his Naturalization Record just one year prior in 1939.

The Dorothy in the 1940 census record is most likely Dorothy Wenk (1906-1971). Dorothy married a DONALDSON, then Oscar.
