Louis John O'Brien

Louis John O'Brien was born November 14, 1912, on a farm south of Masonville, Iowa, the son of John and Elizabeth Duffy O'Brien. He attended country schools near his home and served his country during WWII.

Louis was united in marriage to Lorraine Barbian on July 15, 1949, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Winthrop. They made their home in Winthrop where six children were born: Daniel, Stephen, Patsy, James, Donald, and Sue. Louis worked as a machine operator at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo for 31 years, retiring in 1977. He was a good family man and friend. He enjoyed shooting pool and playing cards with his buddies for many yers. He loved his trips to the casinos, gardening, tinkering with cars, and helping out family, friends, and neighbors in any way he could.

He was a long time member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Winthrop and UAW Local 838 of John Deere.

A Memorial Fund has been established and may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.

Louis entered into his eternal rest on Sunday, January 6, 2008, at the Buchanan County Health Care LTC in Independence at the age of 95 following a short illness.
