Shulenberger Sr., Robert J., died January 2, 2007, in Orange, CA. He was 89.
He was born July 18, 1917, in Rosalie, NE. His family moved to Sioux City, IA, in 1930 where he graduated from Central High in 1934.
In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during WW II and was honorably discharged in 1945. After moving to CA in 1956, he worked at various banks. Los Alamitos Race Track, and Hartwell Golf Park before retiring. He was an avid card player, cook, dancer, enjoyed traveling and looking at the girls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Minnie: brothers, John, Harold and Marvin; sister, Maxine Lorenz, and wife, Jane Shulenberger. He is survived by his son, R.J. Shulenberger; daughter, Kelly Barbera, and their mother, Dee Shulenberger, step-daughter, Judy Agnew, step-son, Michael Carter, and grandchildren, Andrea Shulenberger, Eric Carter, Scott Holloran, and Debbie Kiwala; sister-in-law, Mina Shulenberger; nieces. Kayle Shulenberger, Susan Shulenberger, Dev Suroop Khalsa, Nancy Shulenberger, Karen Quirk, Toni Ragsdale; nephews, John Shulenberger and Dirk Lorenz.
He is also survived by an extended family and countless friends at Palm Island Apartment in Fountain Valley, CA. where he spent the last years of life tripping the light fantastic.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date at Riverside National Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be sent in his name to National Parks Conservation, contact www.NPCA.org.
