Dr. Lawrence Fait

 

Dr. Lawrence E. Fait, 73, 309 McHenry St., Burlington, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 1997) at his home.

Born June 20, 1923, in Sigel, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Sophie M. (Swetz) Fait.

On April 15, 1944, he married Marie Lorraine Richter at Holy Name Church in Wilmot.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 until 1944, when he received a medical discharge. He studied at Carlton College in Minnesota and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before obtaining a doctorate in optometry cum laude from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago on April 25, 1947.

On June 1, 1947, Fait opened an optometry practice in Burlington and in later years formed the Family Vision and Contact Lens Centers with three clinics.

He was a charter member of the American Optometric Association Contact Lens Section and was the first professional in Wisconsin to fit and offer contact lenses to the public in 1947.

He was active in various historical and cultural associations and was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish in Burlington.

Survivors include four sons, Robert, James and Thomas, all of Burlington, and Gary of Mequon; two daughters, Kathleen of Burlington and Joanne Wasserman of Glendale; a brother, George of Madison; a sister, Virgiline Schulte of Madison; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, William in 1966.

The Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.


FAIT—Funeral services for the late Dr. Lawrence E. Fait, age 73, will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 1997 at 7:00 P.M at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Burlington with Rev. Tom Fait officiating. Friends may call Friday, Jan. 24, 1997 from 3:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. at the Church. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials to St. Mary's Parish, Burlington, St. John's Parish, Paris (Kenosha County). The Franciscans Missions, Burlington. Schuette Daniels Funeral Home serving the family.
