Joyce Ann Richter, 63, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at her home under the care of Sioux Center Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 15, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rock Valley with Father Sanchez and Father Linnan celebrating the mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Public viewing, with no family present, will be held Monday, February 14 from 2:30-5:30 PM at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Rock Valley or a cancer charity supporting local families.

Joyce Ann Richter, daughter of Jake and Florence (Terpstra) Teunissen, was born April 28, 1958 in Sioux Center, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm near Doon, Iowa and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. Joyce married Stephen Richter on April 16, 1982 in Rock Valley, Iowa. The couple made their home in Rock Valley and were blessed with four children; Kristopher, Patrick, Jamie, and Elizabeth. Joyce worked for different businesses over the years, spending the last 13 years working for Double HH Manufacturing.

Joyce cherished her family. She faithfully attended her children’s activities over the years and loved spending time with her five grandchildren. Joyce was a very family-oriented, caring and selfless woman. She enjoyed refinishing furniture and shopping at rummages, auctions, and antique places for those projects. Joyce also enjoyed reading. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Valley.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Stephen; three children, Patrick (Crystal) Richter of Sioux Center, Iowa, Jamie (Allison) Richter of Spencer, Iowa, and Elizabeth Richter (fiancé Gavin Thomas) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Scot, Samantha, Makenzie, Benjamin, and Addilyn; sister, Janice (Loy B.) Van’t Hul of Rock Valley; brother, Jay (Anita) Teunissen of Doon; two step-brothers, Bill (Nancy) Van Otterloo of Sheldon, Iowa and Steve (Wanda) Van Otterloo of Rock Valley; and brother-in-law, Mark Bakker of Rock Valley.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Florence Teunissen; son Kristopher Richter; sister, LaVonne Bakker; and step-mother, Margaret Teunissen.
