Gudren "Goodie" Laska

 

Gudren "Goodie" Laska, 83, of Hayward, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 in the Hayward Nursing Home. She was born April 16, 1916 in Superior, the daughter of Wilhelm and Christine (Larson) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Superior and Duluth, and graduated from Duluth State Teachers College in 1936. She taught in the rural schools of Wachanabo and Finlayson in Minnesota. On June 28, 1941 she was united in marriage to Stanley L. Laska in Finlayson. They moved to Hayward in 1948 where they owned and operated Laska's Greenhouse and Nursery until 1979. She was a life member of the Hayward VFW Musky Capitol Post #7233 Auxiliary, and a charter member of the Hayward Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley; five daughters, Christine (Robert) Somerville, Flagstaff, Ariz., Carol Morgan (Roger Knudson), Sandra (Donald) Sheehan and Lynn (Matthew) Fitch, all of Hayward, and Lori (Ric) Suchanek, Madison; her son, James Laska, Hayward; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Yernberg, Duluth; and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Mabel Edwardson and Jennie Artemenko.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Hayward. Pastor Tim Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hayward. Visitation will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Hayward Nursing Home, 11040N State Road 77, or the Hayward Veterans Center, P.O. Box 633, Hayward. Honorary casket bearers will be Spencer Laska, Wes Peters, Bobbie Somerville, and Jason and Kyle C. Suchanek. Casket bearers will be Brett, Scott and Troy Morgan, Brett Poppe, Jonathan Sheehan and William Zawistowski III.
