Funeral services for Herb Herke, 91, were held Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Rev. Ed Murray and Rev. Mr. Hogan officiated with burial following in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Loren Cook, Joe Lilly, Ezra Enderlin, Bob Peiffer, Don McCartan and Lucian Longnecker.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Herke, Herb Herke was born December 1, 1895 in Earlville, Ill. He moved to the Fonda area with his parents and received his education in area country schools and Fonda High School.
Following his education, he entered the United States Army serving during World War I. He married Christine Ellerbrock in 1921 at Auburn and they made their home farming northwest of Fonda many years.
Upon retiring they moved to town and for the past several months he has been a resident of the Fonda Care Center.
Survivors include his wife, Christine; sons Bill, Baton Rouge, La., and Jack, Denver, Colo.; and a sister, Mrs. Martha Bly, Fonda.
