Theresa E. Baumler, age 78, of Calmar, IA, died on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 26, 2011, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from: 2:00-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, in Calmar, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Monday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Theresa Elizabeth (Lansing) Baumler was born on October 15, 1932, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Blong) Lansing on the family farm near Ossian, IA. Theresa attended St. Francis deSales Catholic School in Ossian, along with working on the family farm and helping area families. She married Cyril Baumler on June 1, 1954, at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church in Ossian. Theresa helped Cyril at Baumler TV in Calmar, where she repaired small appliances for many years. Theresa drove a school bus route for the South Wineshiek School District for twenty-one years and also drove the girls’ softball team for many years to their games. Over the years, Theresa and Cyril loved to travel; traveling to nearly every state in the United States and into Europe. Theresa enjoyed tending her large garden, golfing, watching sports on TV; especially the Twins and the Hawkeyes. Above everything else, Theresa loved her family and her grandchildren and enjoyed taking in all their activities. Theresa enjoyed crocheting afghans, making one for all her family members as well as making hats for babies at the hospital. Theresa was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Choir, Calmar Senior Citizens, Halverson-Giesen American Legion Ladies Auxiliary as well as helping with Meals on Wheels.

Theresa is survived by her two daughters: Janet Coffey, Phoenix, AZ, and Jo Ann (Loren) Kuennen, Ossian, IA. Three sons: Dave (Becky) Baumler, Gary (Denise) Baumler, and Duane (Janice) Baumler, all of Decorah, IA. Ten grandchildren: Krystle O’Connor, Jessica Baumler, Scott Baumler, Cavin Baumler, Carston Baumler, Amanda Sherburne, Kellen Sherburne, Garret Baumler, Tanner Kuennen and Alex Kuennen. One great grandson: Tanner Wedding. One sister: Rita Baumler, West Union, IA. Two brothers: Clarence (Darlene) Lansing, New Hampton, IA, and Richard (Madge) Lansing, Ossian, IA. Four sisters-in-law: Rose Lansing, West Union, IA; Colleen (Gerald) Guenther, West Union, IA; Norma Jean (Eddy) Wurzer, West Union, IA; and Lou Ann Throndson, Lawler, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Gerald (Lois) Baumler, Waucoma, IA, and Irenus Baumler, Waukon, IA, along with several nieces and nephews.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Ida (Blong) Lansing. Her husband: Cyril Baumler on June 10, 2002. One brother: Virgil Lansing. Her brothers and sisters-in-law: Melvin Baumler, Reynold (Helen) Baumler, Neil (Lorraine) Baumler, Donald Baumler in infancy, Harlan Throndson, and Marlene Baumler. Her father and mother-in-law: Carl and Mathilda (Scholbrock) Baumler.

Theresa Lansing Becomes a Bride
OSSIAN

The wedding of Theresa Lansing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lansing, and Cyril Baumler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Baumler of St. Lucas, took place Tuesday morning in St. Francis de Sales Catholic church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. J. Thiltgen officiated.

The bride wore a gown of Chantilly lace over satin and carried a bouquet of red roses and white carnations. Her attendants, Lou Ann Baumler and Eunice Lansing wore lace and net gowns of yellow and orchid, respectively.

Richard Lansing was best man and Irenus Baumler, groomsman. Reynold Baumler and Clarence Lansing ushered. A reception followed at the home of the bride's parents.

The couple will live in Des Moines, where Mr. Baumler is employed by American Radio and Television technical school.
