Verlyn A. "Vern" Scholbrock, 62, of 10 Drake Dr. died Friday, March 2, 2007, in his home after a brief illness. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with military rites. The Rev. Gerald Condon will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Survivors include two brothers, Reuben and wife Lana of Cedar Rapids and Syl of Marion. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lorraine Scholbrock of New Hampton; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marvin and Daniel; and a nephew, Kraig Scholbrock.

Vern was born on July 5, 1944, in New Hampton, the son of Joseph and Frances Baumler Scholbrock. Vern worked at FMC for 14 years and later for the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring from there after 15 years of service.

He liked the outdoors, hunting and fishing, working on cars and spending time with his family. He proudly served in the Air Force in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart.

A memorial fund has been established in Vern's name.
