So, what happened? I have no doubt it's the same person. Possible to be two different people? Sure, but highly unlikely. Twins? No. In and of itself, that's VERY unlikely. Plus, Eileen's birth record says she's 2nd born. Elmer's says he's 3rd born with 2 living. So why the name change? Just a mistake on the record? Sure. Could be... Plenty of theories, but the most plausible one I've heard concerns the church. Sometimes, the church (more likely, the priest) doesn't agree with the name chosen (and already submitted to the govt.) and a new baptismal name is chosen. This is now the name of the child. While this is a first for me, others have assured me that it happens... or did happen in the past. This is the answer that seems most plausible to me.
