Patrick Neil Beierschmitt, 57 years old of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, February 9, 2006, at his home from cancer.
He was born March 4, 1948, in Waterloo, the son of Neil Patrick Beierschmitt and Dolores Margaret (Trierweiler) Beierschmitt. He was graduated from Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville, with the class of 1966 and then served in the US Navy, active and reserve duty. On April 6, 1974, Patrick was united in marriage to Mary Ann Widdel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo, IA. They made their home in Jesup for four years before moving to the farm southwest of Jesup; Pat trained in the four-year Journeyman Mechanic program at John Deere in Waterloo, and worked as a maintenance mechanic at John Deere. At the time of his retirement in 1997, he worked in Department 7B. He was an active member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 8227 in Jesup, and was also active with the Easter Seal Farming Program.
Pat is survived by his wife, Mary Beierschmitt, of Jesup; three daughters, Katherine (Darrick) Hagen of Tipton, Laura (Sterling) Minick of Mountain View, AK, and Rebecca Beierschmitt of Coconut Creek, FL; two sons, David (Jennifer) Beierschmitt of Rockford, IL, and Joseph Beierschmitt of Ames; three grandchildren, Isabella Beierschmitt, Kaleena Hagen and Oskar Minick; and one brother, John (Judy) Beierschmitt of Jesup. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Rev. Fr. Paul C. Baldwin as celebrant. The Lector was Sr. Susan Widdel. Soloist Rebecca Beierschmitt with accompanist Julie Bride and the St. Athanasius Choir provided the music.
Honorary Casket Bearer was Brian L. White and Casket Bearers were Steve Beierschmitt, Donald Beierschmitt, Greg Beierschmitt, Martin Richter, Anthony Widdel and Nicholas Blocker. Burial was at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup.
Special services held February 13, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, included a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3 PM and a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville, and to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
