Services were held in St. Clements Catholic church in Ocean Park, Wednesday, February 22, for Raphael Vincent Murphy, aged 16 years, 7 months, 15 days, who died in Venice February 17, just five years to a day after the death of his father. Young Murphy was a popular student in the eighth grade in the Venice polytechnic high school and among the many elaborate floral pieces in evidence at Wednesday’s services was one from the junior high school.
Raphael came to the bay district with his mother, Mrs. Margaret Murphy, four years ago from Eeyota, Minnesota, and during the summer vacation last season he was employed on the Venice miniature railway, the officials and employees of which sent a large floral piece as an expression of the esteem in which he was held by them. Another floral offering was the gift of neighbors.
The young man was ill about three weeks and despite all efforts to prevent, passed into a decline which led to his demise.
Among those who attended requiem mass in St. Clements Church, were John Trissin, Martin J. and D. D. Campion, relatives, from Los Angeles, and John Dooley, an old friend from North Dakota. Mrs. Murphy will take the body to Eeyota, Minnesota, in the spring, for burial in the family plot there.
