Dorothy Louise Fenenga

 

Dorothy Louise Fenenga, age 85, of Winner, South Dakota went to be with her Lord on September, 14, 2007 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center in Winner, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday September 22 at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Winner with burial at the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday at Mason Funeral Home with prayer beginning at 7:00. In lieu of flowers memorials will be donated to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy was born on the Mule Head Ranch in Gregory County, South Dakota on October 7, 1921, the only child born to Jacob and Clara (Schueneman) Schemmer. She attended country school and graduated from Winner High School in 1939. After graduating from Southern State Normal School in Springfield, South Dakota, Dorothy taught at schools in Carter, Fairfax and Winner, South Dakota.

Dorothy married Blain C. Fenenga on September 14, 1947, and they made their home on the family ranch at Hamill, South Dakota, until 1958 when they bought land near Winner. Dorothy enjoyed being a homemaker, keeping the house orderly, cooking meals for her family and guests, and making many of her own and her childrens clothing. Raising llamas after Blains retirement brought much enjoyment to the couple. Blain and Dorothy loved to travel, having visited all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. They spent many winters in Arizona.

Dorothy was a 60-year member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church both in Hamill and Winner where she taught Sunday school for many, many years. And also a member of the Tripp County Fair Board for many years and was a member of the local retired teachers organization.

Thankful for sharing her life are her three children: two daughters, Sandy and her husband David Ashbaugh of Arcanum, OH, Sharon and her husband Harvey Hofstee of New Holland, SD; one son, Jay Dee and his wife Kay Fenenga of Deadwood, SD; eight grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Tom Cain of Greenville, OH, Andrew and his wife Stephanie Ashbaugh of New Madison, OH, Justin and his wife Abby of New Madison, OH, Alex Ashbaugh of Arcanum, OH, Becky and her husband Dan Starkenburg of Marshall, MN, Dain and his wife Erin Hofstee of Sioux Falls, SD, Nick Hofstee and his fiance Laura Van Engen of Sioux Falls, SD and Kristin and her husband Jim Parrish of Rapid City, SD; six great grandchildren, Marissa Cain, Logan, Bethany, Brittany and Aiden Ashbaugh and Abby Starkenburg, one sister-in-law, Doris Fenenga, Mitchell, SD, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Blain, her parents and two grandsons Heath and Hans Hofstee.
