John A. Kerkman, 91, Union Grove, died Oct. 23, 2008, at Oak Ridge Care Center, Union Grove.
He was born Feb. 12, 1917, in New Munster, to the late John L. and Rose (Hofner) Kerkman. He grew up on the family farm on Hwy. 83 just south of Burlington.
He married Rose F. Luke June 8, 1940, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, New Munster. Following marriage they resided in Brighton. They had been residents of Union Grove for 35 years.
He owned and farmed numerous properties in Kenosha County including one that was purchased by the government for the future home of the Bong Air Base. He also worked construction and as maintenance man for Central High School. He was a member of St. Roberts Bellarmine Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. According to his family he enjoyed playing cards and golf.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Union Grove; children, Dale (Peggy), Thomas (Judy), both of Brighton, Jack (Christine), Waterford, Gary (Lorel), Neenah, Kevin (Rose), Paddock Lake, LuAnn Kerkman, Burlington, Donna (David) Johnson, Atlanta, Ga., Allen (Rita), Union Grove, and Scott (Heather), Franksville; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Andy of Nekoosa.
He was further preceded in death by his siblings, Gilbert, Victor, Florence, Cordella, Claude, Mike and Ralph.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 27, at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. The Rev. Howard Haase officiated. Burial was Oct. 28 in Union Grove Cemetery. Polnasek-Daniels Funeral Home, Union Grove, handled arrangements.
Memorials to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church are suggested.
