Nettie D. Sommerfelt, 93, Independence, IA resident died on Friday, March 25, 1994, at East Towne Care Center in Independence. She was born on Nov. 19, 1900, in Fairbank, IA, the daughter of Reinhart and Emma Hubner Trebon.

On July 19, 1926, Nettie and George Sommerfelt were married in Hazelton, IA. He preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Sommerfelt was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, IA.

Mrs. Sommerfelt is survived by one son, Elmer Sommerfelt of Paw Paw, MI; two daughters, Ida (Mrs. Blaine) Hansen of Independence, and Esther (Mrs. Orin) Pope of Tripoli, IA; 16 grandchildren and 28 great greatchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Sommerfelt; four daughters, Helen Sommerfelt, Nancy Sommerfelt, Rose Sommerfelt, and Dorothy Harbert; two great grandchildren; one sister, Alvina Williamson, and one brother, Theodore Trebon.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 1994, at the White Funeral Homer in Independence with Pastor James Fladland officiating. Clark Williamson, Brian Hansen, John Calderwood, Don Shapley, Joe Spenser, and Robert Oberhauser served as caskey bearers. Burial was in Wilson Cemetery in Independence.
