Evelyn Beran, 86 of Salem, Ore., formerly of Hawarden, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000 in Salem.

Memorial graveside service will be Sunday, Nov. 12 at the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden, with the Rev. Dean Shelly of the United Methodist Church officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.

Evelyn E. Beran was born Jan. 18, 1914 near Big Springs in Union County, S.D., to A.J. "Ollie" and Maidie (Frank) Elbert. She graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1931 and the Broadlawn School of Nursing in Des Moines in 1939. She was employed in Des Moines and Cleveland, Ohio. She did post graduate work at Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She married Charles J. Beran on May 23, 1944. They moved to Oregon in 1961 and to Salem in 1977. Mr. Beran died April 26, 1971.

Mrs. Beran was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving relatives includes cousins, Junelda Schmucker of Prescott Ariz., LaMoine and Mary Oden, Hawarden, Bernie and Maxine Schmucker, Bernice and Linda Miles, Stanley and Beverly Harris and Lee and Marilyn Gulberg; Six nephews and nieces.
