Funeral services for Earl W. Hayden, 68, Rock Valley, who died last Wednesday at the Sioux Falls veterans hospital after a short illness were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic church at Rock Valley. Rev R. W. Reinhart officiated and burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Porter funeral home.
The rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers were Lee Schlecty, Henry Kaskie, Bernard Beumer, Al Bonthuis, Roy Pegler, Spec Van Nimwegen, Emmett Scanlan and Bill Long.
Active pallbearers. were Robert Thayer, Gene Bay, Lloyd Kettler, Art Klein,, John Cullinan, and Paul W. Groeneweg.
Mr. Hayden was born Oct. 26, 1895 in Rock Valley. He married Pauline Appet in Dundee, Minn., June 23, 1926. He operated the state liquor store in Rock Valley from. 1936, until 1950, when he began, operating Earl's place. He retired in 1961.
Survivors include the widow, four daughters, Mrs Kenneth Bonthuis of Sioux City, Mrs Edwin Schieffer of Hartington, Neb, and Julianne and Karen, both at home and four grandchildren.
