Gerald Max Guenther
April 4, 1933 - May 23, 2012

 

Gerald Max Guenther, son of Hardy and Adaleen (Danks) Guenther was born March 4, 1933 near Eldorado, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Eldorado. He attended rural grade schools and graduated from West Union High School.

On August 9, 1958, he was united in marriage to Colleen Baumler at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. They lived in West Union the majority of their lives. They are the parents of two children, a son, Jeff Guenther and daughter, Jennifer Imbus.

Gerald spent four years in the U.S. Air Force enlisting with his twin brothers, Robert and Richard, and all three left for active duty the same day. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman, trucker for Big Gain Feeds, operated the Top Hat bar and owned and serviced for General Exterminating Pest Control for over forty years. Gerald loved to fish, especially with his brother, Lyle and he enjoyed watching professional bull riding on TV. He loved being home with his family and spending time with his granddaughters.

Gerald passed away at his home on May 23, 2012, at the age of 79.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Colleen; son, Jeff Guenther of West Union; granddaughters, Cori Boel of Cedar Rapids and Alannah Guenther of West Union; son-in-law, Michael Imbus of Luana; brother, Lyle Guenther and sister-in-law JoAnn of West Union; numerous nephews and neices, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brothers, Robert Guenther and Richard Guenther, daughter Jennifer Imbus, sisters-in-law, Marian Guenther and Beulah Guenther.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 10:30 am, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union, IA , with Rev. Dale Rausch officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home. Interment with military honors from American Legion Post 15 of West Union will follow the service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, West Union, IA.

Public visitation will be held Monday, May 28, 2012, from 4:00 pm

until 8:00 pm, with rosary prayer at 4:00 pm and a Scripture service at 7:30 pm, at the Burnham-Wood Funeral Home in West Union, IA.

Making their home in West Union are Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Guenther.

Colleen Baumler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Baumler, St. Lucas, and Mr. Guenther, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Guenther, were married Aug. 9. The Rev. F. L. Schuh officiated at the 9:30 a.m. service at St. Luke's church.

Maid of honor was Norma Baumler, sister of the bride, with Mrs. Lyle Guenther, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, as bridesmaid. Irenus Baumler, brother of the bride was best man and Lyle Guenther, brother of the bridegroom, attendant.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Guenther are employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company at West Union. Mrs. Guenther was graduated from the St. Lucas high school, and Mr. Guenther, West Union high.
