Vernon J. Richter, 49, died Friday at the hospital in Huron.

He was born in Madison, S.D., and married Elaine Budde on May 12, 1952.

He was a graduate of South Dakota State University in Brookings, and was employed by the Farmers Home Administration. He moved to Huron in 1967.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary, Kansas City, Mo., Thomas, Wessington Springs, S.D., and Brad, Huron; one daughter, Joan, Huron; two grandchildren; five brothers, Francis, Chester, S.D., Donald, Hasting, Minn., Earl, Canton, S.D., Harry, Lincoln, Neb., and William, Halsted, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Hunter, Norfolk, Va., Mrs. John Murphy, Mitchell, S.D., and Mrs. Everett Metcalf, Pullman, Wash.

A funeral mass will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection in Huron. Visitation will be Saturday or Sunday during the day or evening at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Welter Funeral Home.

Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery outside Huron.
