Ethel Margaret Vachta was born March 7, 1921 in Fairbanks, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Frances (Krule) Ford. She graduated from Waucoma High School and attended college in Cedar Falls. On September 12, 1965 she was united in marriage to Edward Vachta in Kirksville, Missouri. They lived in Washington and then moved to Wellman in 1966. She worked at Shenk Nursing Home in Wellman and then the University of Iowa Hospital in the dietary department from 1966-1986.
Ethel died on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at her home in Wellman following a brief illness at the age of 85 years. Ethel is survived by her husband Edward of Wellman; 4 children - David Koshatka and wife Ilo of Mesquite, Texas; James Koshatka of Florida; Doreen Strabala and husband Neil of Hills; Susie Koshatka and husband Dave Henderson of Frytown; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister - Evelyn Green of Sumner. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Norbert Koshatka; 3 brothers and a sister.
Private family services will be held at a later date in the Wellman Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice and Wellman Ambulance. The Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
