Arlene Roanhaus

 

Arlene F. Roanhaus, 87, of Salem, passed away at her home on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.

Born in Wheatland, Wis., on Nov. 29, 1926, she was the daughter of Joseph B. and Dorothy T. (nee Barbian) Lenz. She spent her early life in the Salem/Wheatland area where she attended grade and high school, before she graduated from U.W. Whitewater where she earned her teaching degree.

On June 26, 1948, at St. Alphonsus Church, she was united in marriage to Phillip Mathias Roanhaus. Following marriage they made their home in Wheatland where they raised their family. Phillip preceded her in death April 21, 2000.

Arlene was a school teacher/administrator for St. Alphonsus Grade School. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Church and The Wheatland Willing Workers 4H. She taught RICA classes through St. Alphonsus, loved tutoring students, loved playing cards, baking and traveling. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends and she was an excellent cook.

She is survived by her children, Darlene Roanhaus, Dolly (Jim) Thuemmler, Daniel (Beth Buri) Roanhaus, Deborah (Al) Vos, Dell Pat (Jackie) Roanhaus, Diane King, Donna Dixon and David (Monica) Roanhaus. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Jason, Renee (Kris), Tanya (James), Josh, Ashley (John), Jake, Grant (Ashley), Amanda, Missy (Dan), Kelly (Ryan), Jenny (Brady), Rachel (Jason), Steve (Melissa), Ryan (Penny), Ben, Paul Ryan, Nicole, Michael, Lindsey, Erika, Marcus, Chris, Gerad and Jessie; great grandchildren, Kayla, Jaxon, Kaydan, Ethan, Madison, Abagail, Noelle, Ella, Avery, Uriah, Christopher and Elijah.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Robert (Sophie) Lenz and Ardell Lenz.

Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus Grade School.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Emily McManaman, Darlene Diderich, Patti Poppe, Dr. Cassidy, and Dr. Bortin, Father Robert Massey and Father Dennis Stafford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church with Rev. Robert Massey and Rev. Dennis Stafford officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, from noon to 4 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Burial will follow Mass at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Couple Married At New Munster

This morning at St. Alphonsus Church, New Munster, Miss Arlene F. Lenz. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wheatland, became the bride of Phillip M. Roanhouse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roanhaus, Burlington. Rev. Joseph Michaels performed the ceremony.

The bride, given over in marriage by her father, chose a Dorothy Doll style dress of white ninon, trimmed with "good luck" lace around the yoke and on the ruffles of the skirt. Her three-quarter length imported illusion veil was held in place by a crown of orange blossoms and was edged with matching lace.

Mrs. Robert Lenz, sister-in-law of the bride, was matron of honor. She was dressed in blue mousseline de sole fashioned like the bride's gown. She wore matching gauntlets and a picture hat caught With a large bow in the back. She carried white carnations arranged With ribbon leaves.

Bridesmaids were Evelyn Martin, Ruth Lenz, Hellen Roanhaus and Manse May. Their gowns were fashioned like that of the matron of honor but were in pink, green, orchids and yellow. All wore matching gauntlets and hats. Sharon Wilson. cousin of the bride, and her flower girl, was dressed in blue.

Best man was Ralph Roanhaus brother of the bridegroom and groomsmen were Robert Lenz, Marvin Roanhaus, Robert Vos and Ardell Lenz. Ushers were Raymond Toelle and Harold Roanhaus. Soloist was Miss Mary Ann Toelle, who was accompanied by Mrs. Egon Uhen, organist.

A wedding dinner was served at the Hotel Burlington and a reception for 200 guests was held at the home of the bride's parents. After returning from a trip through Canada the couple will live with the bride's parents until their new home is completed.

The bridegroom is employed as a laundry superintendent in Burlington and the bride is a teacher at Oak Knoll School in Randall.
