Norma Larie Vannice 1930 - 2013

Norma Larie Vannice passed away and went to Glory on December 10, 2013. She was born on February 21, 1930 in Waterloo, Iowa to Ernest and Hilda Schmidt. She was the youngest child born into a family of five children. She had two sisters, Betty and Ruth and two brothers, Joe and Dick.

Norma and her family relocated in the Wapato area in 1943. She graduated from Wapato High School in 1948. In 1949 she married Louis Nickoloff and was a wonderful mother to their 3 sons that they raised on their fruit ranch. Norma worked for the Wapato school District for 26 years. She was the Food Service Director for 16 of those years until 1992 when she retired.

In 1986 Norma married Dick Durkee. She had 10 wonderful years with Dick. He passed away in 1996. Mom loved to have her family over for dinner and we would sit around the piano and sing while Dick would play.

In July of 2000 Norma married Les Vannice. They had fun together traveling around the country introducing each other to their relatives. Norma and Les were married until July 2, 2013 when he passed away.

Norma was an active member of Central Lutheran Church and was a member of Lovalji Club. She was a big help in organizing her class reunions. Because of her activities she had many wonderful and close friends that will dearly miss her. She was active with her grandchildren and enjoyed hosting as many as she could gather up each year for Vacation Bible School.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Hilda Schmidt, brothers Joseph and Dick Schmidt and her sisters Betty Orth and Ruth Gerhardt and her son Clay (Buzz) Nickoloff.

Norma is survived by her sons Steve Nickoloff and wife Carmen, and Mark Nickoloff and his wife Jana. Her grandchildren Jacob Nickoloff, Stephanie O'Brine, Cory Nickoloff, Niki Nickoloff, Samantha Rouse, Ashley Nickoloff, Lucus Nickoloff, Vincent Nickoloff, Ana Frahm, Richard Frahm, and 9 great-grandchildren.
