Services for Arthur Richard "Dick" Schmidt, 52, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, were Oct. 10 in Phoenix.

He died of heart failure Oct. 5 in Phoenix.

He was born May 4, 1936, in Waterloo, son of Ernest and Hilda Tribon Schmidt. He married Darlene Margaret Flickinger on May 18, 1963, in Las Vegas, Nev.

He worked for the Carnation Co. in Waterloo until moving to Phoenix in 1958.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Kim Boaz, Brenda Nicholson, Teri Mambrey, Tanya Boggs, Trisha Evans and Traci Schmidt, all of Phoenix; a son, Randi Robertson of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren; and two sisters, Norma Durkee of Yakima, Wash., and Ruth Gerhardt of Maryland; he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Orth, in 1959; a brother, Joseph, in 1985; and a daughter, Tiki, in 1984.

The body was cremated.

Research notes for Arthur

If you sort through the obits of Arthur, Iva, and Darlene, you begin to get a sense the children may take some sorting out. I think I have...that being said, I feel quite sure I've made an error somewhere. But here's what I got...

Arthur and Iva's marriage to each other was the 1st for both. They had 2 children. They divorced ~ Nov 1962.

Arthur married Darlene in 1963. I believe they had only 1 child. However, Darlene had 4 girls and a boy from previous marriage to H.Q. Robertson.

I also believe Iva had 1 additional child after her divorce from Arthur...and while the name of this child is VERY similar to a child of Darlene and her 1st husband, I think they are indeed different.
