Miss Mary Elizabeth Schemmer, 76, former New Holstein resident, died Tuesday morning at St. Nicholas Hospital following a lingering illness. Recently she had been living at the Anna M. Reiss Home here.

Born in New London, Wis., May 1, 1877, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schemmer. Before coming to the Reiss Home she had resided in New Holstein with her brother, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. George A. Schemmer, former pastor of Holy Rosary Catholic Church there.

Surviving are Father Schemmer and a sister, Miss Josephine Schemmer, both now living at the Reiss Home.

Only other living relatives are Mrs. Gertrude Schemmer, Colby, Wis., and John and Rose Galleger Schemmer, New York City.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Church, New Holstein, with Father Peter Van Dyke, administrator, celebrant of the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery, Chilton.

She will lie in state at the Holy Rosary Rectory from 1 p.m. Thursday until the time of services Friday morning. The rosary will be recited in the church at 8 p.m. Thursday.
