Celeste was born on November 13, 1906, to the late Theodore and Elizabeth (nee: Vos) Richter in Wheatland Township.
She attended grade school at St. Alphonsus in New Munster and graduated from Burlington High School.
On June 18, 1929, she was united in marriage to Clarence P. Fonk.
Together they moved to Kenosha where they became charter members of St. Mary Catholic Church.
She was also a member of Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella.
They founded Fonk's Poultry Farm and Hatchery on Cooper Road which supplied many Kenosha and Racine County farms with chickens and feed.
They also serviced many City of Kenosha grocery stores with fresh eggs.
Mr. Fonk preceded her in death on March 13, 1971.
She enjoyed traveling the world, bird watching, reading and gardening.
Celeste Fonk is survived by her eight children, Betty Riley of Kenosha, Janice (James) Dorau of Kenosha, Carolyn (Robert) Abrahamson of Kenosha, Judy (Thomas) Kauzrich of Kenosha, Ronald (Fyrn) Fonk of Eager, Ariz., Margaret (Charles) Seitz of Racine, Kathleen (Robert) Frederick of Redding, Calif. and Joyce (Dr. Martin) Walsh of St. Louis, Mo.
Also surviving are 33 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband Clarence, Celeste was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald Fonk; son-in-law, Charles Riley; daughter-in-law, Joanne Fonk; sisters, Laura Daniels, Florence Robers, Alice Robers, Leona Epping, Irene Kelly; and brothers, Frank, Elmer, William and Adolph Richter in infancy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Celeste C. Fonk will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, 1 p.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, 73rd Street and 39th Avenue, Kenosha.
Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday at the church from 12 noon until the time of Mass.
