Claude J. Epping, 74, away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Burlington Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 19, 1930 in Wheatland Township to Sylvester and Leona (nee: Richter) Epping. He spent his early life in Wheatland Township and was a lifelong resident of Kenosha County. On November 24, 1951, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Betty Lee Ketterhagen.
He attended St. Alphonsus Grade School and Wilmot High School and had served two years in the United States Army. Claude was a Dairy Farmer. He was a member oi St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, the Kiwanis Club, the VFW, and the Farm Bureau. He served on the board for First Banking Center and the Federal Land Bank. Claude was a past member and held a position on the Building Committee for St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Bristol and was also past President for the Parish Board at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Wilmot. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He enjoyed life and spent his winters in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Epping of Salem; children, Peggy (Allen) Briggs, Jerome (Colleen) Epping, Robert (Rena) Epping, Dennis (Julie) Epping, Richard (Lora) Epping, all of Salem, and Donna (Shawn) McLafferty of Lyons; grandchildren, Patricia and Michael Briggs, Bradd and Carli Epping, Trent, Taun, and Troy Epping, Jade and Chloe Epping, Jordan and Dylan Epping, and Drew, Chad, and Shae McLafferty. He is further survived by siblings, Esther (Dick) Schmidt Chuck (Sally) Epping, Romaine (Roger) Ziehen, Lillian (Edward) Roberts, Dale (Gladys) Epping, Judy (LeRoy) Schmidt, and Barb (Mark) Wisnefski, and brothers-in-law, Gene Robers and Elmer Ketterhagen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Eleanor and Marjorie; and his brother, Norman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster on Friday, April 15, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Tom Biersack officiating. Private interment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Friday from 3 until 7 p.m. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church have been suggested.
