Rose F. Kerkman 1919 - 2017

 

Rose F. Kerkman, 97, of Waterford, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Waterford Senior Living.

Rose was born August 30, 1919, to Werner and Mary (née Capello) Luke in Wheatland, WI. Her early life was spent in Wheatland; she graduated from Burlington High School and attended Racine Kenosha Normal School and the Teachers College in Union Grove. On June 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to the late John Kerkman at St. Alphonsus in New Munster. Following their marriage they resided in Brighton. Rose and John owned and farmed many properties in Kenosha County including one that was purchased for the future home of Bong Air Base. John passed away October 23, 2008. She was a resident of Union Grove for many years and for the past 5 years has resided in Waterford. At the age of 54, Rose graduated from Parkside University with her degree in Education. After receiving her degree, she taught at various schools in Kenosha County.

Rose was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and a very devoted farm wife. Rose was the loving mother of 9 children and a wonderful mother-in-law. More than anything she loved and treasured spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards and Bingo.

Rose is survived by her children, Dale (Peggy) Kerkman of Brighton, Thomas (Judy) Kerkman of Brighton, Jack (Christine) Kerkman of Waterford, Gary (Lorel) Kerkman of Neenah, Kevin Kerkman of Union Grove, LuAnn Kerkman of Burlington, Allen (Rita) Kerkman of Union Grove, Donna (David) Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., and Scott (Heather) Kerkman of Franksville; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Joyce of Burbank, Calif., other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years; her parents; siblings, Arlene, Kathleen, William, Robert, and Roman; grandsons, David Johnson and Dan Kerkman; and daughter-in-law, Lucy Kerkman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., at the church. Private Burial will be held at Union Grove Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.

Thank you to the entire Waterford Senior Living staff for the years of caring, loving and compassion shown to our mother. We also thank Allay Hospice, especially her caregiver, Meghan and nurse, Deb, for their support to the family and mother.
