Evelyn Mary (Hegeman) Kerkman, 100, of New Munster, passed to eternal life on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Pine Brook Pointe.
Evelyn was born on February 10, 1917 to Lawrence and Catherine Hegeman in Burlington. Evelyn attended St. Mary Catholic Grade School and was the oldest of five daughters.
On April 12, 1947 she was united in marriage to Francis H. Kerkman at St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington. They made their home in New Munster where they raised their family. Francis preceded her in death on March 19, 2006.
Besides working on the family farm during her youth, Evelyn worked at the Burlington Mills during WWII, held the position of Treasurer for Wheatland Township in Kenosha County, and assisted with the hot lunch program at St. Alphonsus Catholic Grade School. Evelyn was a devoted and dedicated member of St. Alphonsus Parish. She volunteered for various ministries during her 70 years serving her faith community.
Evelyn took great pride in her cooking, sewing, and keeping a clean and tidy home for her family. She enjoyed dancing, music, baseball and her grand and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Linda Kron of Bristol and Jane (Charles) Jones of Bayside, WI; Grandchildren, Jason Kron, Sara (David) Sortino, Rachael (Bradley) Jackson, Jody (Matthew) Peterson, and Julie Kron; Great-grandchildren, Mia and Ava Peterson, James and Julia Sortino, and Lillian Jackson. Other family members include Stanley and Dorothy Kerkman, Arlene (James) Kerkman and Betty (Robert) Siehoff, plus many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her four sisters, Virginia (Charles) Ebbers, Lorraine (Joseph) Ehlen, Patricia (Howard) Harlow, and Norma (Hugo) Koch; In-laws, Marcell and Colletta Kerkman, Leon and Rosemary Kerkman, James Kerkman and Robert Siehoff.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Brook Pointe for the loving care of Evelyn for the past seven years. Thank you to Serenity Hospice for the wonderful care they gave her during her final days.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Alphonsus Church or to Pine Brook Pointe Assisted Living.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Daniels Family Funeral Home, Burlington, on Tuesday, July 18, from 4-7PM. Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn will be held on Wednesday, July 19 at 10AM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, New Munster.
