Kaskie-Braaten
Miss Bernice Kaskie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Kaskie, became the bride of Nels Braaten, son of Mrs. Anna Braaten, of Canton, South Dakota.
Father J.J. Madrick performed the double ring ceremony at Canton at 10 o'clock at the Dominican Fathers parsonage.
The bride wore a blue sheer dress with white accessories and carried a bouquet of roses. The brides maid, Leona Sianing, friends of the brides, wore an aqua dress with white accessories and carried a bouquet of roses. The groom wore a blue suit with white boutonniere. Albert Kaskie, brother of the bride was the best man. He wore a dark suit with white boutonniere. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the brides parents. The couple will make their home in Canton.

Bernice Braaten
Bernice Braaten, age 90, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Hudson Care and Rehab. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18 at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Canton. Visitation, with family present, will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at St. Dominic's. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
Bernice was born on March 3, 1927 in Hudson, SD to Ollie and Anna (Goeken) Kaskie. She married Nels Braaten on August 14, 1948. He died in 1982. In addition to raising her family, Bernice ran a café, worked at Visser's Grocery, Fred Green's Dry Cleaning, and the school lunch program, sold Avon products, and cleaned the church. She enjoyed reading, working in her flower garden, and taking care of her grandkids.
Grateful for sharing her life were her sons, Larry, Alan (Julie) and Bruce, all of Canton, SD, 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nels; great-grandson, Joseph Coad; 4 brothers; and 1 sister.
