Paul Kaskie, 79, died Monday, December 8, 2008 at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m., Friday at St Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at St Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Father Doug Klein will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday with family present from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Paul Andrew Kaskie was born July 18, 1929 to Ollie and Anna (Goeken) Kaskie west of Rock Valley, IA. He served his country as a medic in the United States Army from 1953 - 1955 during the Korean War. Paul was united in marriage to Kathryn Van Beek in September of 1955. Together they lived seven miles west of Rock Valley where they raised seven children. Paul farmed west of Rock Valley most of his life, moved to Rock Valley in 1995 but still helped on the farm until this last year. He also drove school bus for the Rock Valley Public School. Paul was active in the Hudson and Rock Valley VFWs. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church.
Paul is survived by his seven children: Ronda (John) Leusink of Orange City and their children: Jaclyn (Jeremy) Van Den Berg, Joshua (Allison) Leusink and Jordan (Breena) Leusink; Vickie (Gerry) Veenis of Canton, SD and their children: Kylee (Seth) Breems and Kory Veenis; Steve Kaskie of Canton, SD and his children: Tadrah and Turner Kaskie; Terry (Karen) Kaskie of Hudson, SD and their children: Amanda and Andrew Kaskie; Kristi (Brian) Kooima of Rock Valley, IA and their children: Melissa (Jason) Davis, Nikki Van Otterloo, April Kooima, Anthony (Heidi) Kooima and SPC Christopher Kooima; Randy (Linda) Kaskie of Rock Valley, IA and their children: Logan, Luke and Mailyn Kaskie; Kelly (Carl) Schelling of Orange City, IA and their children: Amber, Derick and Kati Schelling; 4 great-grandchildren: Hannah, Elyssa, and Isaac Van Den Berg and Hudson Davis; 2 sisters: Bernice Braaten of Canton, SD and Rose Boyer of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Albert, Frank and Davis Kaskie.
