Julia A. VanLoan, 92, former long-time resident of Brewster died July 15, 2002 in Everett, WA.
She was born August 9, 1909 in Denver, CO to John Oswald and Odelia O'Rourke. After her father's death in 1910, Julia and her mother lived in Ethan, SD with her grandfather, Daniel O'Rourke.
After the marriage of her mother, Odelia, to Raymond Kaskie, they moved to Mitchell, SD where Julia attended Notre Dame High School and Junior College, graduating in 1931. She then took art classes at Milwaukee State Teacher's College.
On May 26, 1934, Julia married M. Allen VanLoan in Lead, SD. During WWII, they lived in Bremerton, WA and later settled in Brewster in June of 1949, after having spent some time in the Tri-Cities area. In Brewster Julia taught grade school for 13 years in addition to the six years she taught in South Dakota. She received her BA in Education from Eastern Washington University. She was also active in school and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster. After retirement, she and husband, Allen, did much traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. Following his passing in 1986, Julia moved to Lynnwood after spending 43 years in Brewster.
Julia leaves four children, David (Karen) VanLoan of Everett, Denis (Sandy) VanLoan of Redding, CA, Philip (Dale) VanLoan of Denver, CO, and Mary (Wayne) Boden of Anchorage, AK; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Miles Kaskie of Colorado.
Funeral Mass 3:00pm, Thursday, July 18, 2002 at St. John's Mission at 3rd and Loveland in Mukilteo. Graveside Service to be Friday, July 19, 2002 at 1:00pm at Locust Grove Cemetery, Brewster, WA.
