Cynthia Blythe Schemmer, 40, a prize-winning artist and a 1966 docent at the National Collection of Fine Arts, died Wednesday of diabetes neuritis at her home in Reston after several weeks of hospitalization.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., she studied fine arts at Florida State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and was elected Miss Florida State University in 1955.
Mrs. Schemmer studied at George Washington University, the Corcoran Gallery and at the University of Karlsruhe in Germany.
Her paintings won prizes in Florida, Germany, and at the Monterey, Calif., Arts Festival. Mrs. Schemmer also had designed magazine covers for Look magazine and Armed Forces Journal.
Mrs. Schemmer is survived by her husband, Benjamin F., and a son, Clinton Howard, both of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Howard Sweatt of Eustis, Fla., and a sister, Eleanor Harsh, of Huntsville, Ala.
