RIGBY
Albert H. Helsing, 84, a Rigby farmer, died May 21, 1995, at Valley Care Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born June 5, 1910, at Burke, S.D., to Charles August and Elizabeth Schemmer Helsing. He grew up and attended schools in Herrick, S.D. In 1932, he moved to Idaho.
On Sept. 30, 1938, he married Martha Haywood at Pocatello. He farmed and raised cattle in the Rigby area, and had been honored as Farmer of the Year in Jefferson County. For 25 years he served as watermaster on the Rigby Canal, and on the board of directors of the Great Feeder Canal Irrigation for many years. He worked for Utah and Idaho Sugar Co. in Rigby for several years.
He was a member of the LDS Church. He served as secretary of the Modern Woodmen for more than 30 years. For many years he was a judge for the National Cutter Racing Association. He loved to fish and hunt.
Survivors include his wife of Rigby; children, Lola Mae Hardy of Idaho Falls, and Dwain Helsing of Rigby; a brother, Scott W. Helsing of Warrenton, Va.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the East Rigby LDS Stake Center with Bishop Blake Manwaring officiating. The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and Wednesday for one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
