Memorial services will be held Sunday afternoon in the city hall for Kenneth F. Helsing, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Helsing. He lost his life November 24, 1947 on the U. S. army transport Clarksdale Victory, which was wrecked off the Alaskan coast. He was born August 22, 1919 on a farm north of Herrick, S. D., where he grew to manhood, attending school in Bonesteel and Burke. He entered the service as a merchant marine in 1942, being third assistant engineer. He crossed the Pacific four times during the war with supplies to ports in New Zealand, Australia, India and Japan.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Helsing, four brothers, Ralph of Omaha; Albert of Rigby, Ida.; and Scott of Washington, D. C.; Vaughn of Herrick, S. D; and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Ellston, Dallas, S. D.; Mrs. Robert Scholes, Hawthorne, Calif.
