RIGBY
Martha Mary Haywood Helsing, 87, of Rigby, Idaho, died Jan. 26, 2005, at Beehive Homes in Rigby of natural causes.
She was born April 13, 1917, in Rigby, Idaho, to George Charles and Laura May Scott Haywood. She was born and raised on the family homestead farm northeast of Rigby. She attended school in Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School.
On Sept. 30, 1938, she married Albert Homer Helsing in Pocatello, Idaho. They raised three children. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a life member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, embroidery and making quilts. Martha especially loved camping, fishing, hunting and being with her family.
Survivors include children, Dwain (Vicki) Helsing of Rigby and Lola Hardy of Idaho Falls; eight grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Helsing; a sister, Blanche (Eugene) Pickens; a brother, George Lloyd Haywood; a son, LaVern Helsing; and a grandson, Scott Helsing.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, with Bishop Brett Olaveson officiating. The family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and for one hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
