Mrs. Gertrude Schemmer of here passed away at her home Sunday afternoon following a brief illness. Services were conducted at the Erbe-Hoffmann Funeral home followed by a solemn requiem mass at St. Mary's church here. Officiating clergyman was Father George Schemmer of New Holstein, a step-son of the deceased. Father Joseph Bartelme served as deacon with Father Roland Ahearn as sub-deacon and Father R. Thomas Peeters as master of ceremonies.
Born March 19, 1861, in the town of Meeme, Sheboygan County, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Hertel, Mrs. Schemmer attended district school at Meeme. In 1879 she was married to Benjamin Miller, who passed away in 1900. She married Bernard Schemmer in 1910. He preceded her in death in 1932. The deceased was a member of the Christian Mothers' society of St. Mary's church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Rose Kessler of Winchester, Mrs. Josephine Peterson of here, Mrs. John Boll of New Holstein, and Mrs. Armond Lorenz of California; three sons, Arthur Miller of Milwaukee, Leo Miller of Rice Lake and Oscar Miller of here; 32 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Dower, of Alhambra, Calif.
