Lorraine Schieffer, 76, Hartington, died Feb. 17, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation, with a rosary, was Feb. 21 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and continued with a Vigil Service at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, that evening. Funeral Services will be Feb. 22, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. John Pietramale officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers are Darlene Miller, Marilyn Zimmer, Margie Kathol, Alice Jaeger, Sally Burbach and Gert Vonderheide. Honorary pallbearers are the Christian Mothers and Amy Duhachek, Teresa Fischer, Ann Holz and Deb Heithold.
Lorraine was born July 23, 1929, at Rock Valley, Iowa, to Earle and Pauline (Appel) Hayden. She grew up in Rock Valley, Iowa, and graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1947. She attended Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, Iowa, and began working for Iowa Public Service, Lemars, Iowa. She married Edwin L. Schieffer June 1, 1957, at Rock Valley. Ed died May 13, 1994, at the age of 64. The couple moved to Hartington in 1960 where they started a publishing business, the Hartington Shopper. Lorraine loved to attend all the sporting events her five sons and grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and visiting with her friends and neighbors. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Ladies Guild, and the Christian Mothers. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, and she and Ed were one of the first chairmen of the Cedar Development.
Survivors include her five sons and their wives, Tom and Wanda Schieffer, Hartington; Mike and Nanette Schieffer, Portland, Ore.; Tim and Jeanne Schieffer, Columbus; Mark and Julie Schieffer, Overland Park, Kan.; and Jim Schieffer, Tempe, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret and Ken Bonthius, Sioux City, Iowa, and Julie Hayden, Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Karen Hayden.
