Henry John Gelhaus, life-long resident or this community died suddenly at his homo two miles south of St. Henry last Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock following a stroke which he received shortly before his death. He had been in failing health for the past two years.
The deceased was born at St. Henry September 15, 1879, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard John Gelhaus. He was united in marriage to Philomena Kramer at St. Henry, June 8, 1910. He had spent his entire life on a farm near St. Henry.
Mr. Gelhaus was a member of the St. Henry Catholic church and a member of the Holy Name Society of that parish. At the time of his death he attained the age of 64 years, seven months and 15 days.
Surviving to mourn his loss are his wife, Philomena Gerhaus; the following children: Starr Sgt. Herbert Gelhaus of Boston, Mass.; Mary and Lucille Gelhaus of Ft. Wayne and Edward, Norbert, Gertrude and Ralph Gelhaus at home. A sister, Anna Gelhaus of St. Henry also survives. One daughter, a brother and one sister preceded the deceased in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, Nov. 3 at St. Henry. Catholic church at 9:00 o'clock with Rev. Herbert Kramer celebrant at the Solemn Requiem High Mass. Assisting Father Kramer were Rev. P. A. Kanney and Reverend Henry Hess. Burial was made in the St. Henry cemetery.
