Alvera E. Schmitz, 87, New Weston, Ohio, died on June 7, 2016 in St. Paul, MN.
She was born December 21, 1928, in New Weston, OH, to the late John and Helen (Fink) Kramer. On February 20, 1954, she married Ralph Schmitz, who died March 20, 2016.
Surviving are her children, Connie (Dave) Miley of St. Marys, OH, Theresa (Tony) Grillot of Osgood, OH, Ron Schmitz of Edwardsville, IL, Jim (Suzanne) Schmitz of Beavercreek, OH, Carol (Tom) Suchland of North Pole, AK, Kevin (Renee) Schmitz of Chanhassen, MN, Ken Schmitz of New Weston, OH, Keith (Diane) Schmitz of Cedarpark, TX and Beth (Levi) Lawler of Luling, LA; her siblings, Rose Brown of St. Marys, OH, Hilda Schmitz of Union City, OH, and Edna (Bob) Stout of St. Henry, OH; 27 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; and in-laws, Ann Schmitz of Versailles, OH, Eileen Schmitz of Fort Recovery, OH and Delores Schmitz of St. Henry, OH.
Preceding her in death was her grandchild, Bruce; her brothers, Nick, Luke, Henry, Leo, Joe, Mark, and her infant brother George Kramer and her sisters, Agnes Schmitz, Anna Jutte, Clara Hinkle and infant sister Helen Kramer.
Alvera was a graduate of the former Jackson High School, Darke County, Ohio. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 345 and Daughters of Isabella Circle 810, both of Fort Recovery and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5135 of Coldwater, Ohio. Alvera was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville, Ohio and its Altar Sodality.
She was active through the years making rosaries, playing cards and being active in the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was also a faithful volunteer for State of the Heart Hospice for over 20 years. Her passion to help others will be greatly missed.
Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville, Ohio, Fr. Charles Mullen, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery, Burkettsville, Ohio.
Calling is 2:00 pm-6:00 pm Sunday and 9:00 am-9:45 am Monday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio. A Daughters of Isabella prayer service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
