Funeral services for Patrick B. Doherty, 74, of 52 Franklin St., will be Friday at 9 a. m. at St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Duane Brady, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday night at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home. The body will be taken Thursday to the family home where a joint parish, Holy Name Society and Legion of Mary rosary service will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Doherty was stricken with a heart attack Tuesday at 9 a. m. while attending the last rites for a friend at the funeral home.

A native of Ireland, Mr. Doherty was born March 17, 1884, at Hamelton, County Donegal, a son of Patrick and Rebecca Brown Doherty. He came to Waterloo in 1913 and married Mary Salz April 20, 1920.

From 1914 to 1952, Mr. Doherty was employed by the James Black Dry Goods Co. and for two years was elevator operator at the Insurance Building. He retired in 1954.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, its Holy Name Society and an auxiliary member of The Legion of Mary.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Sister Mary Patrick Louis. BVM, at St. Mary's school, Chicago, and a brother, Thomas, residing at 52 Franklin St.

Also surviving are a cousin, John Brown, and a niece, Mrs. Ruby Toland, both of Chicago, and several other nieces and nephews residing at Philadelphia, Pa.

Research notes for Patrick

Quite likely 1901 Ireland Census Record

There's a good candidate for his immigration record (1909), but census records indicate he immigrated 1912/1913. His naturalization record occurred in 1921. Have to keep digging on this one... for now, I'm marking immigration at 1912.
