Richard John Salz, 89, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.
He was born June 19, 1920, in Waterloo, son of John and Amelia Wiest Salz.
Mr. Salz was employed by Bruner & Salz Plumbing and Heating, Black's Office Building and the Waterloo Theater. He was a member of the American Legion Band and an accompanist for the Waterloo Recreational Singers.
Survived by: a brother, Alfred W. Salz C.S.C. of Austin, Texas; a sister, Mary (Joseph) Koster of Dunkerton; a nephew, Michael Koster of Charles City; a niece, Virginia (Gregory) Koch of Ames; five grandnieces and nephews and a great-grandniece.
Preceded in death by: a brother, John Joseph.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.

Richard had a great talent for music. He enjoyed playing the violin, harmonica, piano, accordion and saxophone.
