Funeral of Pioneer Held Wednesday in Fairbank Church
Fairbank, Ia., Nov. 29.
Requiem mass was celebrated at Immaculate Conception church Wednesday morning tor Rufus Trebon, who died at his home here this preceding Sunday at the age of 76. Father Hanlon, pastor, was assisted by three other priests. The burial was in Fairbank Catholic cemetery.
Mr. Trebon was born in Berlin, Germany, on April 16, 1848, the son of Michael and Marcella Trebon, who, when the boy was six years old, came to the United Slates. They settled first in Wisconsin. making the journey from there to Buchanan county, Iowa, with ox teams.
They settled about six miles south of Fairbank in huge forest, from which the trees were grubbed to make the land available for farming. Grain was taken to Dubuque to be made into flour and brought back to the farm.
His father died about 18 years ago. His mother, now 98, resides with a daughter, Mrs. I. I. Chase, in Fairbank.
Mr. Trebon was married In 1872 to Gusta Ortman, who, with, three sons, survive.
