Isaac Ithmer Chase, 75, who was born at Fairbank, Iowa, of pioneer parents, died at 2:25 p. m. Saturday, January 30, at his home. 414 Ninth St., East, in Waterloo. Death was due to complications. He had been in failing health for six years, but was bedfast only a week before his death. His life work was that of a farmer and buttermaker.
He was born Jan. 12, 1862, the son to Harvey and Mary (Betts) Chase, who came to Fairbank, Buchannan County, Iowa, in the late 50's. He moved to Waterloo with his family about seventeen years ago, prior to that date he had always lived in and around Fairbank.
Mr. Chase was twice married. His first wife was Miss Lucretia Ludwig. They were married in 1885. She died June 27, 1891. The second marriage was to Lena F. Trebon, on April 5, 1893. To the first union three sons were born. They are: Burley I Chase, Oran; Earl W. Chase, Fairbank, and Fred L. Chase, 221 Baltimore St., Waterloo. Two sons and two daugters from the second marriage survive. They are Ithmer L. Chase, 1909 Bertch Ave., Waterloo; Mrs. Joseph Flieder, 556 Reihl St., Waterloo; and Mrs. Walter Kerns, Fairbank. One brother, Eugene Chase, and a half brother, Silas Moore, both from Fairbank, also are remaining. There are thirty grandchildren.
Mr. Chase was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. The body was taken to the O'Keefe and Towne Funeral home, in Waterloo. Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Fairbank, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Father W. J. Torpey, assisted by Rev. Father N.J. Lenz, pastor of St. John's Catholic Church of Waterloo. Burial was made in the Immaculate Conception cemetery, in Fairbank.
